Ramayan Reading Part A

Part A

1. Was just an intro about Ayodha. Dasharatha is sad because he still has no son.
2. Dasharatha performed a sacrifice to the gods and the gods promised 4 sons to Dashharatha
3. His 3 wives gave birth to his 4 sons.
4. A well-known man came to Dasharata and Dasharatha offered him anything he wanted. The known man wanted two of his sons for one of his rituals.
5. The known man took the two sons to a forest where they fought and slew an evil woman. The known man then rewarded one of the sons with weapons. The woman's sons came to kill the two sons but the sons killed them.
6. A different king also couldn't have sons so he asked a priest for help. The priest said one wife would give birth to one son and the other wife to 60,000 sons. The king was going to offer a horse sacrifice but it got away so the 60,000 sons went to look for it. When the one son went to go look he found all 60,000 of his uncles dead. There was a certain kind of water the 60,000 men needed for their souls to be taken up to heaven.
7. One of the original sons Rama asks the known man who lived in his house before him. (The story goes on but it's hard to read so I need to reread it).
8. Rama and His brother Lakashma go out and view the wonders of the city. All of the girls inside of the city are peering out of their blinds admiring the two. Rami then goes on Meets the kings daughter Sita and falls in love with her.
9. The king then says any man who wants to marry his daughter must complete a challenge. The challenge was in the form of a strength challenge. He brought forth Shiva's mighty bow and arrow and claimed that no man has ever bent the bow out of all who have tried. He then exclaimed that any man who could bend the bow could marry his daughter.
10. Rama was determined to marry Sita. He accepted the challenge and the bow was brought forth to him and he was given a chance to bend it. Rama successfully bent the bow and snapped it in half, and the King then gave Rama permission to take his daughter's hand in marriage.
11. Then after the bow was broken, a strange and hermit-like figure came out of the woods and was filled with rage. He was furious that the sacred bow was demanding to know who had broken it. Rama's brother said that Rama had done it. the hermit said if you think you are a true hero, then draw this bow of Vishnu. Rama succeeded and the hermit exclaimed all hail the mighty Rama.
12. In this episode, the wedding of Rama and Vita is greatly detailed. There are many extravagant flowers and colors. Many others were also married along with the two, and it was a blessed and very happy day.
13. In this episode, Dasharatha is said to have been growing weary and tired, and he claims he would have no better pleasure in life than to see Rama take the throne after he left it. He claimed that Rama towered among men as Shakra amongst the gods.
14. In this episode, it is detailed that there is someone who does not rejoice at Rama's installation into the king's ship, and it is Manthara. She was a very homely person. She used to be the nurse of the son of Kaikeyi. She hated Rama because they had not liked each other ever since they were younger.
15. In this episode we see Kaikeyi coming to speak to Dasharatha. She has two requests for Datharasha to fill out. one of the requests is for Rama to be banished out of the village for a total of 14 years, and the second request is for her son Bharata to be installed as Yuvurajah. This made Datharasha very upset, but he granted her wishes.
16. In this episode, we see Rama's father telling Rama to go into exile. Rama, without question, obeys his father's orders and removes himself from the city and ventures out into the forest to live in banishment.
17. In the episode where Rama is banished, he insists on being banished out int the forest alone and by himself. However, his wife and his brother tell him that they want to go with him. They end up going with him and are put into dresses of bark to be put to shame, however, Rama's wife does not have to don a dress of bark.
18. In this episode, it details Rama's initial trave out into the forest after being exiled from the city. They must cross a river to get to the forest, and the river is very clear, and there are prayers said to the gods asking that they may have a safe journey and return after the 14 years were over.
19. In this episode, Dasharatha remembers that he has karma coming back around to get him. When he was younger he had accidentally killed a man's son. He was cursed after this, and the only way for him to get rid of the curse was for him to sacrifice himself. He ends up throwing himself into a fire and killing himself, and the curse is lifted off of his soul.
20. In this episode, Dasharatha is lying in his death bed beside Rama's mother, Kaushayla, and he was very close to death. They end up talking about a few things for a little while until at one point Dasharatha lays back and his spirit leaves his body.

Introduction to Carver's life

Hi, I'm Carver Ramey and I am currently a junior here at OU. My major is Finance and I would say the coolest part of my major is I got to go study abroad last summer and take a finance and accounting class. The best class I took last semester would be Philosophy because I was able to work ahead and complete the course two weeks before it was due. After I graduate from OU I want to go to work somewhere in the real estate field. This summer I have an internship at a commercial real estate firm in Dallas which I am very excited about. If for some reason I don't enjoy real estate I will probably try and go to law school after graduating from OU. My favorite hobby of mine is skiing. I usually go skiing once or twice a year and I have been doing that for the past 15 years whether it's with my parents or a group of friends. To make sure I keep this streak up every summer I work and save up so I can afford to go. This winter break I went to Crested Butte with a couple of my friend

"Favorite Place"

My favorite place to go in the world is anywhere that I can ski. Skiing has been my favorite thing to do since I was 6  years old and I try and go every year. There is no specific place on this earth that I call "My Favorite Place" but anywhere with snow that I can ski on is my favorite place.                                                                                     Photo of person skiing on snowfield
