Introduction to Carver's life

Hi, I'm Carver Ramey and I am currently a junior here at OU. My major is Finance and I would say the coolest part of my major is I got to go study abroad last summer and take a finance and accounting class. The best class I took last semester would be Philosophy because I was able to work ahead and complete the course two weeks before it was due. After I graduate from OU I want to go to work somewhere in the real estate field. This summer I have an internship at a commercial real estate firm in Dallas which I am very excited about. If for some reason I don't enjoy real estate I will probably try and go to law school after graduating from OU.
My favorite hobby of mine is skiing. I usually go skiing once or twice a year and I have been doing that for the past 15 years whether it's with my parents or a group of friends. To make sure I keep this streak up every summer I work and save up so I can afford to go. This winter break I went to Crested Butte with a couple of my friends and had a really good time. Another thing I really enjoy is basketball, whether it's watching the NBA or playing with my friends.
Another interesting fact about me is that I love animals. Throughout my life, I've had fish, dogs, parakeets, lizards, turtles and many other different kinds of pets. I currently have two dogs back at home and two fish who live with me in Norman.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at OU and cannot imagine going to school anywhere else. It's sad to see that I only have a year and a half left!

  1. Yay for animals, Carver! One of the things I like about studying mythology in general is the way animals are part of the stories that people tell all over the world. And animal stories are so important in the traditions of India! You already saw the Buddhist jatakas where the Buddha lived previous lives as an animal... and the same also for the god Vishnu: his first avatars were animals — a fish, then a turtle, then a boar. Eventually he starts taking on human avatars; Rama in the Ramayana is one of his human avatars. There are ten main avatars, and it's a kind of evolution from human to animal: Ten Avatars / Dashavatara. Maybe that is something you will be interested in learning about this semester. It is one of the most famous Indian storytelling traditions, the avatars of Vishnu. You could tell your fish about Matsya, Vishnu's great fish avatar. :-)

  2. Hi Carver! Nice to have you in class! I think it is so awesome that you got to study abroad last year, I am going to Arezzo this May and I am SO excited! I think it is so awesome that you like to go skiing as a hobby! I've never been, but I love the snow and it looks so fun! I might be to clumsy to be successful though. I am also an animal lover.... except for snakes. Snakes are a no go! I currently have three cats in my apartment (even though I am allergic to them). I can't wait for graduation so I can move into a bigger place and adopt more fur babies!

  3. Carver! First of all, let me just say that your picture of the cute pup was one of the things that drawn me most about your blog post. Personally, I've never had a pet before and it's crazy for me to see that you've been living with them all of your life. One of the most interesting pet that I see you had was a parakeet, which I would love to know more about. I'd assume that they would talk all the time and would make a wonderful extra guest to the household! Another thing is that I've always wanted to go skiing, but never had the opportunity for it. However, I can see that you're a well-versed veteran in such a field. You're really out here living the life I wish I had. But nevertheless, I'd like to welcome you to the class!

  4. Hi Carver,

I am also in the business side of things with an accounting major, I feel like there is a lot of us in this class. I am so jealous you got to study abroad, that always seemed like so much fun from what I've been told! Real estate is such an interesting and wide field, I think you'll really enjoy it if that is what you choose to do. I cannot imagine having so many different animals and pets throughout your life, that is awesome. Good luck in the rest of class!

  5. Hi Carver!

It is great to meet you. That is so awesome that you were able to study abroad, it sounds like a lot of fun! I haven't taken a philosophy class here at OU yet, but it sounds like it went pretty well for you so I might give it a shot. Skiing sounds like so much fun, especially in Colorado! Aw, your puppy is adorable! It looks like we are both animal lovers. I've never had a fish before, but they are definitely cool to look at in the pet stores! I think real estate is a good career path, and I wish you all the best. Have a great semester!!

  6. What's up Carver,

Finance sounds pretty hard, and thank god for people like you who can do it so I don't have to! You mentioned getting to study abroad; I just got back from Spain and it is really an epic experience, like I'm sure plenty of other people have said as well. Where are you trying to travel to? And definitely try the coffee wherever you go, it's different in every country and always pretty good. Time will fly, so make sure to enjoy your last year and a half!

  7. Hi Carver! I think it's great that you got to complete course requirements for your major while also getting to experience a new country. Where did you study abroad? It's also pretty impressive that you worked ahead and finished your philosophy course 2 weeks early. I hope to do that with this class too, so we'll see how it goes!

  8. Hey Carver,

I think skiing is a really cool sport. I've never been, but it always looks like so much fun. Personally, I hate cold weather, so maybe I wouldn't enjoy it as much as you do. Also, I commend you for being a finance major. I've known a couple other people with that major, and they tell me it can be challenging. I would love to see some pictures of your animals in the future. Good luck with everything!

  9. Hi Carver,
Enjoy this last year and a half while you can! It goes by so fast. Where did you get to study abroad? I love traveling, and I've always wanted the opportunity to go to school in another country. Congratulations on your internship in Dallas! That's nice that you have a backup plan. I love skiing too! Well, specifically snowboarding. I have only been snowboarding in Snowmass, Colorado. It would be fun to go to Crested Butte.

  10. Hi Carver, nice to meet you! Studying abroad is so much fun, I went to Arezzo a couple of summers ago and it was my favorite experience at OU! I think it's so cool that you wanna work in real estate. My dad does real estate and it’s something that's always caught my attention, so I'm thinking about doing something in that field after law school. Also, I think it's so cool that you love skiing so much and make it a point to continue your steak, I haven't found a hobby like that yet!

  11. Hey Carver,

I really like your interests in all! I hope that you can find what you really like to do, as you mentioned how you might not be liking real estate right now, but you are interested in law. Best of luck with all of that, I am sure you will land where you want to be in the near future! I also liked how you did a study abroad program. I hear about those often, and I am not really ever sure if they will be worth my time or money in the long run, but when you mentioned you were able to finish earlier than expected and how you really enjoyed it, I am really considering it even more! I am also really glad you are enjoying OU, as I am too, and I really hope you have a great rest time for the rest of your undergrad!

  12. Hello again! Man, I have so many friends that have been to Colorado and go skiing or snowboarding every year. I feel like I'm missing out big time. How expensive is it to plan for a trip like that though? I know nothing about the sport or the destination, so I just wonder how expensive it might be if I wanted to go there, or just because I'm curious since you said you had to save up every year to go. With Spring Break coming up, I hope you're able to get out there and enjoy some of your other hobbies you mentioned! And I hope all your plans you talked about post-graduation + this summer go swell. Sounds like you've got quite an ambition! :-)

  13. Hi Carver,
It made me laugh whatever reason to see the picture at the bottom just captioned "dog". That is really cool that you got to study abroad over the summer. I am super jealous I hope I get to study abroad at some point. Nice to see another NBA fan in the class. Hopefully we will get play to resume again soon.

Week 7 Story: What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

It wasn't just any regular night at the MGM Grand casino it was the night the 5 sons of the billionaire Alfred Hunter the inventor of the toothbrush. The boys accepte

"Favorite Place"

My favorite place to go in the world is anywhere that I can ski. Skiing has been my favorite thing to do since I was 6  years old and I try and go every year. There is no specific place on this earth that I call "My Favorite Place" but anywhere with snow that I can ski on is my favorite place.                                                                                     Photo of person skiing on snowfield
